To understand Feynan unique nature, the Plant hike is very informative and mixed with sense of humour of the local guide.

Due to the rugged nature of the area and lack of rainfall, plants are used wisely by the locals, either to feed their goats or using natural hand soap or for medicinal purposes.

Fun Fact: During the Plant Hike, I got introduced to the Donkey Ear Plant, which is a grass like plant, when it is freshly green in colour, the plant is extremely poisonous for the goats to eat, but when it turns yellow and crispy, it becomes suitable for the goats to eat, this is why the local name this plant it Donkey Ear Chips!

This activity is hosted at the lodge aesthetic rooftop while serving unlimited local sweet tea.

#11: Candle lit Activity the Eco Lodge

One of my favourite activities to do just before sunset time, is working with the lodge staff to light the candles around the lodge.

It gave me the sense of belonging to this beautiful and hospitable community.

#12: Engaging in the Local Bedouin Experiences

For an extra small supplement (not more than $5 per person), the lodge organises some unique local activities with the Bedouins, personally, I did:

The Making of Traditional Arabian Kohl (Eyeliner)

It is widely known, at the Arab nations, that Bedouins have the most dramatic & mysterious eyes, using the Arabian Kohl as part of their daily routine which is commonly used by men and women.

And as someone who loves her makeup and black eyeliners, I took part of this activity and learned how Bedouins make the Arabian Kohl from natural ingredients of Olives traces heated on a big pan placed over a fire and a black smoke start to emerge, they wait for about 15 minute and then they collect the black residue on the pan and use the residue as a natural Kohl.

The making of the Arbood Ancient Bread

Despite Arbood bread is claimed to be an ancient bread that nomadic people baked for thousands of years, I lived for over 24 years in Jordan and never heard of this bread until I did this activity, which was very interesting and very yummy!

Arbood bread is a very simple bread, made from flour, water and a pinch of salt mixed all together until they form a dough!

Arbood Bread Fun Fact: The most interesting part of making Arbood Bread lies in the baking process, which consists of digging a hole in the sand and lit a fire and then putting the dough in that hole and covering it with the sand for around 15-20 minutes!

Probably you are asking, what about the sand sticking to the dough during the baking process, dose it mixes with the bread?

During the mixing process, the Bedouins mix the dough in a certain way until they get a dough that is not sticky where the sand particles don’t get stuck nor mixed with the bread! Talking about pure magic!

Weaving Tents from Goat Hairs

This is a seasonal activity during early summers that showcase the process of using goat hairs to weave the Bedouin tents.

Making Bedouin Arabian Coffee

Arabian coffee is very different that the Italian Espresso or the Americano coffees. It is also not strong, nor light roasted and in the Bedouin culture Arabian Coffee symbolise important events depending on how it is served and drunk.

In this experience, the guests will be shown the process of roasting and brewing the coffee alongside on the rituals of drinking the Arabian coffee and what each gestures means.

Pro Tip: when visiting any of the Bedouin Experiences, showing respect to the locals by wearing modest clothes for both men and women is highly appreciated.

#13: Visiting Petra for a Day Visit!

Short of 2-hour drive from Feynan, guests can visit one of the 7th world wonders, Petra for a day visit or at the end of Feynan Lodge stay.

You do not want to miss visiting Petra, when visiting Jordan! Afterall, it is the main destination to visit in Jordan!
