@museofaggiano is a small museum at the heart of Lecce city centre.
The story behind this family owned museum dates back to 1984 when the Faggiono family bought the building to turn it to an Osteria (small restaurant), but the smell of the mould and dampness made the new owner dig the flooring to search for the source of the dampness, little dis he know that his floor digging would trigger the local authorities visit (as no one is supposed to dig the floorings of the old buildings in Lecce), when the authorities arrived the amazing discoveries were made that the building was built over several ancient tombs dating back to the Messapic era then followed by the Romans..
In short, the local authorities retrieved lots of ancient pieces and left only 5% to the Faggiano family.
The family decided to turn the home into a museum and a place to share the local culture with the world.. For more info visit their website and visit this hidden gem museum whenin Lecce.
